Michael Anton Herbert

Michael Anton Herbert is a freelance Photographer's Assistant based out of Chicago. He graduated in the top three percent of his class in 2007, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Visual Art and Design at the University of North Texas. Prior to studying under Dornith Doherty and Brent Phelps at UNT, Michael completed an Associate of Arts degree in photography from Kilgore College under O. Rufus Lovett. He is familiar with Canon and Nikon digital SLR cameras as well as Sinar and Phase One digital backs and has extensive experience with scanning positive and negative film (35mm, 6x6cm, and 4”x5”), Inkjet printing up to 40”x40”, importing to Adobe Lightroom and Bridge, assigning meta data, building and printing from digital internegatives and interpositives, color balancing, Capture One Pro and Photoshop CS3 post-production. Michael is trained and experienced in studio portraiture and tabletop strobe lighting techniques as well as lighting for location portraiture and architecture using strobes and hotlights. He is familiar with Dyna-lite, Profoto, Speedotron and White Lighting strobe power packs, fiber optic light captors, Lowell Omni and Pepper hotlights, and Alien Bee, Speedotron and White Lightning variable power monolights. Michael brings an eagerness for creative problem solving to both set and location. He has assisted for dozens of photographers and studios from Dallas to New York to Chicago.
